The Meznäs were founded in 1996 by Matt Rasch (bass), Nik McLane (guitar), Dan Frye (vocals), and Ryan Cook (keyboard). They went through many name changes, from The English Rain to The Stools, but they finally settled on The Meznäs. (The name came about while playing Trivial Pursuit and Ryan pronounced the word 'mensa' wrong.)
Everyone asked what 'mezna' meant in Spanish, so Matt added an umlaut (ä) to throw people off. Then they asked what it meant in German. Now, after much study, it was just recently discovered that it is actually the name of a city near Prague in Czechoslovakia! (Yes, I know it's the Czech Republic now, but I just like to spell out Czechoslovakia.)
Dan and Ryan left, so they then got Kevin Paul (lead guitar) and Ryan Cole (drums). They recorded a few albums at On The Run Studios, and played many times at B.C.H.S. (They lost the Battle of the Bands though, because the other band cheated and used alcohol to enhance their performance.) After a few years, they added Erik Van Horn (bass, guitar) to the line-up.
Today the Meznäs are practicing and recording as much as they can. To keep up with what's going on with them, keep checking back here at "The New & Improved Official Meznäs Website"! Thank you, and have a pleasant day!
